sam falls

Sam Fall’s work is largely concerned with contemporary Western ideology relative to nature and the individual. Formally he returns to persisting notions of melancholy and nostalgia via domestic representations of nature in such items as wallpaper and fabric, as well as people in their surrounding environments. He supplements his portrait and landscape photography with a strong studio practice indebted mainly to painting and collage. In these specific pieces he works with traditional color printing processes to produce an overarching formal scheme which points to the loss of memory and fleetingness of time. His work is primarily large and medium format color film, as well as installation and video.
