Mike Ruiz and Kathy Give Good Page

posted on May 19, 2010 by Jason Quincy

The ever-coveted aesthetic of  The Notorious Bettie Page is honed for 2010 by the contemporary eye of Prints995 photographer, Mike Ruiz, featured below in an advance series of images slated for a forth-coming book of celebrity transformations. The spread features the ever-more notorious comedienne, Kathy Griffin, who quite convincingly channels the pin-up prototype in cropped red bangs, sparsely trimmed in leopard print and black lace.

While the cult icon (Bettie) has seen periodic surges in popularity since the late-seventies (suggested reading: A Nostalgic Look At Bettie Page), and most recently by means of Beyonce's not-so-subtle homage to mid-century stag, "Why Don't You Love Me", Ruiz's take steers toward a fashion driven and refreshingly unambiguous claim at sexuality.

While awaiting the book's release (due later this year), satisfy your appetite with a limited-edition print from Ruiz's Fetish series (available for purchase at prints995).
